Materials
30 or more colorful chenille stems
four large green felt leaves
one or more plastic bug catchers
Instructions
l Cut ribbon into strips about 3' long and attach them to the pencils with glue
or thread. Make one for each child.
What to Do
1. Talk to the children about rhythmic gymnastics and divide them
into groups (one for each color).
2. Name each group according to the colors red,
blue, green, purple. Children should be at
least 6' away from each other to avoid
tangling ribbons.
3. Play the music and let the children
twirl their ribbon pencils in the air
and create new patterns (circle,
spiral, snake, and so on).
4. Encourage the children to
exchange the sticks and
continue dancing.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children name the colors of the pieces of ribbon?
l Name a color and ask the children whose ribbon is that color to come
forward and twirl their ribbon pencils.
