Instructions

What to do
1. Invite the children to paint the lids of the baby food jars and put aside to dry.
2. Give them several bowls with white sand and ask them to stir in a little dry tempera paint (the
color of the sand should be strong).
3. Encourage the children to fill their baby food jars with the colored sand, alternating colors or
creating a pattern. Remind the children not to shake their jars!
4. When the jars are full to the top and the lids are dry, the children can cover their jars and then
place a decorative sticker on top.
More to do
More art: Provide children with other types of clear containers, such as plastic soda bottles, to fill
with sand. Children can add layers of tiny shells or pebbles.
