Instructions
1. Ask the children to find a partner and give each pair a box or bag.
2. Ask the children to find as many items of their favorite color that they can fit
inside the box or bag in a limited amount of time.
3. Put the timer on and tell the children to start searching. Give extra time to
younger children who may get frustrated when the timer goes off.
4. Another option is to concentrate on a certain color for each pair or one color
for the whole class. Do what works; also ask for suggestions from the children.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip S
l Allow children to work alone if they wish.
l You might also want to let each child take home one favorite item.
For example, if Sophie likes red, put out a red pencil or other item for her
to have.
Poem
Favorite Colors by Eileen Lucas
My favorite colors are pink and blue
And yours are white and red.
My mom prefers brown and yellow.
My dad likes purple and black.
Some days I really like them all
But that doesn't seem fair.
But then again there are so many colors
I don't think anyone would care.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can each child identify her favorite color?
l Can each child identify other colors around the room as she plays the game?
