Materials

Baking powder cans with plastic lids (or a cardboard tube)Scissors

Colored cellophane

Rubber bands

Self-adhesive plastic

Plastic tape

Instructions

1. This activity lets children look at the world through rose-colored (or other colored) glasses.

2. Cut off the ends of the cans. Make sure no rough edges remain.

3. Cover one end of the can with colored cellophane, holding it in place with a rubber band.

4. Trim the cellophane.

5. Cover the can with self-adhesive plastic6. Carefully cut out the inside of the plastic lid, leaving a 1/4 " (6 mm) rim.

7. Place the lid on the can, over the cellophane. Seal it with plastic tape.

8. Encourage the children to look through the tube to view objects and observe the change in color.More to do:Insert a flashlight in the end of the tube and observe the beam on the ceiling. Move the beam across the ceiling, in different movement patterns. This is a good eye tracking exercise. Use two tubes with two flashlights.
