Instructions

1. Tell the children that colors are all around them in the classroom, in their
homes, and in nature.
2. Take the children outdoors for a walk.
3. Call out a color, and ask them if they see anything that is that color.
4. On a clipboard, copy down the names of all the colored objects the
children see.
5. Allow the children to name several
objects for each color. Then, call
out the next color.
6. Continue in this manner until the
children find objects for all of the
colors of the rainbow.
7. Once you are back in the
classroom, ask the children to
recall the colored objects that they
saw on their walk. Check the list of
objects you wrote on the clipboard
to see how well the children can
recall what they saw.

To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children name foods whose colors match each of the colors in a
rainbow?
