Instructions
1. Before class, cut one red, blue and yellow 4" (10 cm) construction paper square per child. Fold each in half and cut out the center, leaving a 1" (2.
5 cm) frame. Next cut out one 3 1/2 " (8.
5 cm) square of red, blue and yellow cellophane per child.
2. Give each child one set of colored cellophane and one set of construction paper squares. Ask the children to match the cellophane color to its corresponding construction paper frame.
3. Glue the cellophane to its frame. Instruct children to put glue only on the construction paper.
4. Punch a hole in the center of the top of each frame. String all three frames loosely together.
5. Let children experiment by holding the colors up to their eyes and looking at objects in the room. Encourage them to combine colors and look through two or three at a time.
6. Give children a flashlight and let them shine it through the cellophane colors. Use a white surface such as a wall, floor or piece of construction paper to reflect colors onto. Encourage children to combine colors. Ask them what colors they see if they shine light through both the yellow and blue frames.
7. At circle time talk about how red, yellow and blue are primary colors from which all other colors can be made. Ask children to describe the different colors they made by combining the primary colors.
