Instructions

1. Help the children cut out a large oval shape from orange paper.
2. Using black construction paper, help the children cut out shapes, such as
triangles, circles, squares, and rectangles. (Make sure the shapes are small
enough to fit on the orange oval.)
3. Ask the children to identify the shapes.
4. Encourage the children to design a pumpkin face using the black shapes.
When they are satisfied with their arrangement of shapes, help them glue the
pieces in place.
5. Cut out a rectangle from green construction paper. Glue it to the top of the
pumpkin face to make a stem.
6. Hang green yarn across a window, wall, or counter. Staple each pumpkin to
the yarn to create a pumpkin patch.
More to do
Games: Play "Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin." Draw two shapes for eyes on a
large pumpkin. Cut out a triangle shape from felt or construction paper and insert
a thumbtack or a loop of tape in its upper corner. Cover the child's eyes with a
bandana or scarf. Carefully place the triangle with the tack in his hand. Position
the child about 5' (1.5 m) from the pumpkin. Encourage the child to try and pin
the nose on the pumpkin.
Snack: Soak pumpkin seeds in salt water overnight. Spread out the seeds on a
cookie sheet and sprinkle lightly with salt. Bake the seeds in an oven on low heat
(about 200 degrees ) for about two hours, stirring every thirty minutes. Allow them to
cool. They are ready to eat!
