Instructions
1. Beforehand, gather a variety of foods that represent each of the four
categories of taste. For example:
* sweet (a grape, an orange, candy, jelly)
* sour (a lemon, warhead candy)
* salty (chips, popcorn)
* bitter (baking chocolate, grapefruit, cinnamon without sugar)
2. Explain to the children that their tongues are sensitive to four types of taste:
salty, sweet, bitter, and sour. Tell them that they are going to have a taste test.
3. Put out one sample for each taste group. Encourage the children to taste each
food. Discuss each flavor as they try it.
4. Put out four more samples, one from each group, for the children to taste.
Ask them to identify the taste and which group it belongs in.
