a set of crayons in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, and white
a set of color flash cards in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, and white
12" x 3" construction paper in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, and white
stapler (adult only)
Instructions
1. Bring the children over to the table.
2. If desired, review shapes, numbers, and colors with the children. After
reviewing, hand out the paper and crayons.
3. Explain to the children they will be doing an activity using shapes, numbers,
and colors. They will need to listen carefully and follow the directions. Then
ask them to do one or more of the following:
l Draw a red square.
l Draw a green rectangle.
l Draw a yellow triangle.
l Draw a blue circle.
When you are finished with the shapes, ask them to do the following:
l Draw a black 1.
l Draw a brown 2.
l Draw an orange 3.
l Draw a purple 4.
4. When they are finished, gather the papers and review them with the group.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Discuss whether all the papers are the same, and ask children if it was difficult
to follow the directions.
l Review the shapes, colors, and numbers you worked with during the activity.
If children had difficulty with any of these areas, plan activities to help the
children further develop these skills.
