What to do
1. Write the children's names on
their boxes in bold print, using
colorful markers.
2. Cover the floor or a large surface
with newspaper and ask
the children to wear smocks.
3. Have the children color or paint
the outside of their boxes in
solid colors or a design of their choice.
4. When the boxes are dry, invite the children to decorate them with an assortment of materials.
5. Use the boxes to store the children's artwork and to transport fragile materials home over the
course of the year.
More to do
Circle time: Invite the children to bring a stuffed friend from home, then share a story about the
stuffed friend with the class.
More art: Decorate labels for the children's cubbies or coat hooks with crayons or markers, then
laminate. Create a border for the bulletin board with the children's handprints using fingerpaint.
