Instructions

1. Prepare a colorful, eye-catching flyer entitled: "Collection Drive for Things
to Use in Creative Learning."
2. Make a list of any items you might need in your classroom over the next
few months. Think about upcoming themes, special celebrations, and
holidays as well as your classroom centers (art, math, science, fine motor,
housekeeping, and so on). For example, if you want to add some new
items for counting and sorting, ask for keys, buttons, ceramic tiles, plastic
bottle caps, discarded puzzle pieces, loose game pieces, shells, rocks, bag
of rubber bands of various sizes and colors, beads, and so on.
3. Send the flyers home to parents.
4. Provide a child-decorated Collection Box and place it in a visible spot.
This will also serve as a reminder to parents.
5. Be sure to acknowledge families and friends that respond to your
collection drive.
6. Take pictures to show how the children utilized these contributions.
More to do For items that are not typically found around the home, make a list of
various businesses that have items available upon request by teachers and
parents. For example, appliance stores have refrigerator boxes, framing
stores have matte board, greeting card stores have envelopes, lumber
stores have wood pieces, and so on.
