Instructions

1. Make your own dice to use with this game. On one large foam cube, print
the numerals 1 through 6 and the dots to match. On the other cube,
place pictures representing familiar collage materials, such as sequins,
buttons, tissue squares, fabric scraps, paper scraps, and foam pieces. Put
one type of material on each side of the cube.
2. Play this game with four to six children. Give each child a piece of card
stock or thin cardboard and a bottle of glue.
3. Put the collage materials in the middle of table.
4. Explain to the children that they will roll the dice and add the number of
collage materials shown on the dice. For example, if the number die
lands with a four showing and the collage die lands with buttons
showing, the child glues four buttons to her paper.
5. Let the children take turns rolling the dice. Continue taking turns
until everyone has had a least four turns or the children grow tired of
the game.
6. After they have dried, display the collages on a bulletin board. Title the
display: Counting Collage. Include a paper with a short explanation of
the game for parents to see.
More to do For older children, use real dice and have them add the numbers and put
that number of items on their collages.
