Instructions

1. Take photographs of the children as they are involved in daily classroom
activities and develop them into 4" x 6" prints.
2. Cut each piece of poster board into four sections.
3. Glue one photo on each card and label the activity under the photograph.
4. Connect the squares in a timeline in chronological order horizontally. Attach
the squares together with masking tape.
5. Attach the timeline to the wall at the children's eye level. (Good places would
be under the chalkboard, or where circle time is conducted.)
6. Cut out a 4" cardboard star and write "now" on it. Attach it to a clothespin.
7. Select a helper to move the clothespins from square to square as the day
progresses.
8. Take opportunities to refer to the timeline during the day and talk about
past, present, and future.
9. If a special event is planned for the day, such as a visitor, project, or trip, write
the word on a sticky note and cover the picture. Or, write the word "special"
on a cardboard star and glue it to a clothespin. This helps reduce repeated
questions about when a daily special activity will take place.
More to do Home-to-School Connection: Make two copies of the photographs and send
one copy home to parents so they can see their child interacting in the
classroom.
Math: For older children, write the time each activity occurs on the cards.
Discussion can lead to opportunities to learn the concept of time. Add a
moveable clock to help this skill.
