l Cut the yellow construction paper into triangles. Make a triangle with a 12"
base.
l Cut construction paper triangles in a variety of sizes and colors, some
equilateral and some in the shapes of pennants.
What to Do
1. Engage the children in a discussion about triangles in the everyday world.
Challenge them to find triangles in the classroom.
2. Encourage the children to think of triangles outside of the classroom. Help
them come up with a list of triangles they might find in the world.
3. Give each child a yellow triangle. Ask them to pick a triangle-shaped object
they would like to draw.
4. Help the children glue the triangles onto sheets of construction paper, and
then encourage them to use markers to fill in the details on their triangleshaped
objects.
5. When the children complete their triangle pictures, ask them to describe what
the triangles in their pictures are doing. Copy their descriptions onto their
pages.
6. Punch holes along the 12" side of the children's pages and use rings or yarn to
bind the book. Read it aloud to the children.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Did the children identify triangle-shaped objects to draw?
l Did the children glue the triangles onto the paper successfully?
