Recipe from each child in class
Copy machine
Paper
Hole punch
String or ribbon
Instructions
1. Talk about hats. Why do we wear hats? What kinds of hats are there?
2. Show the children a variety of hats, or pictures of them, such as rain hats,
cold weather caps, firemen's hats, baseball caps, football helmets, "Cat in the
Hat" hats, military caps, fancy Easter hats, and so on.
3. Send a note home asking parents to let their children bring in various hats.
During circle time, ask the children to put on their hats and talk about them.
4. Help the children make hats from paper. They can be as simple as just cutting
out two circles of paper and stapling them together, or as complicated as
origami samurai hats.
More to do
Language: Compare the hats using opposite words. For example, large/small,
big/little, tall/short, and so on.
Math: Count the hats.
Science: Explore with the children which kinds of hats keep out the cold (paper?
cloth? football helmet?) and/or rain.
