Instructions

1. Beforehand, choose a few categories such as transportation, animals, clothing, foods, tools, and so on. Write each category on a large piece of poster board and include a couple of example pictures for each (such as a bike and car for transportation, and a hammer and nails for tools).

2. Provide magazines and invite the children to cut out a few pictures for each category.

3. Show each picture to the group and ask the children to tell you which category it belongs in. Glue the pictures to the poster board where they belong.

4. For younger children, precut pictures and glue them to construction paper so that children do only the classifying. Ask the child to choose one of the pictures you made and add it to the classification sheet.
