Instructions

1. Take a close-up photo of each child's face.
2. Cut out the faces from the photos.
3. Arrange several photos on a piece of copy paper and make copies of them.
4. Cut out the pictures and glue them onto sentence strips or pieces of tag
board.
5. Write the child's name next to his picture. Each child will have his own photo
card.
6. Use the picture nametags in many different ways. Examples include:
* Use them to take attendance by putting the pictures of children who
are present into a box.
* Children can use the cards to choose free play areas. Display pictures
of the different play areas and ask the children to put their picture
cards next to where they are going to play.
* Put the cards on a table and encourage the children to use them to
identify the other children.
* Use the picture cards when you line up, make a circle, or sit in a
particular place by placing them on the floor or countertop and asking
the children to sit or stand by their photos.
More to do
Encourage the children to use their photo cards to identify anything that they
make, such as dictated stories or pictures. Use the cards to make a class book.
Let the children take turns bringing the book home to share with their family.
Literacy: Encourage the children to pick their cards out of a group and practice
tracing their names with their fingers.
Math: Ask the children to sort the cards into categories, such as boys and girls,
short hair and long hair, and so on. Encourage the children to think of their own
categories.
More Math: Use the cards to make a graph on a pocket chart. For example, put
a picture of a hamburger and a picture of a hot dog in the pocket chart and ask
the children to put their photos under the food that they like best.
