Instructions

Ahead of time, put one insect sticker on each juice lid, making sure each lid
has a match (you are making an insect memory game).
What to Do
1. Give each child a lid and then have him find the child who has the match to
his insect. Ask the children to give other children clues about their insects
before looking to see if their lids match. For example, "My insect is red and
black," or "My insect has colorful wings."
2. Place all of the lids out on the floor face up and ask the children to find pairs.
3. For older children, play a "memory" game: Place the lids face down on the
floor and tell the children to turn the lids over one at a time and try to
remember which insect lid is which. If they turn two over that don't match,
they turn them both face down again. If the lids match, the children can pick
them up.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Play the game with them for the first few times and then let them try on their
own. You might also send the game home with them so that they can play
with their families.
Songs
Sing "The Ants Go Marching" or "Ten Little Butterflies" with the children.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Can the children go from matching with the lids facing up to turning them
over where they can't see the stickers?
* Can the children name some of the insects if shown images? Can the children
describe an insect if you say the insect's name?
