Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr.

Instructions

1. Make a palm tree using green felt for leaves and brown felt for the trunk.
2. Put magnetic tape on the back of the tree and put in on a magnet board.
3. At the beginning of the year, talk about the alphabet and read Chicka
Chicka Boom Boom to the children.
4. Use the magnetic letters and the tree on the magnet board as you read
the book, and act it out if you wish. Have the children act out the story
later during center time in small groups.
More to do Art: Have the children paint with real palm leaves instead of paintbrushes.
Science: Open a real coconut and let the children examine it. They may
even want to try some coconut milk. Safety Note: Check for food allergies
before letting children taste the milk.
Sensory: Make a letter sensory bottle. Remove the label from an empty
water bottle. Add some water to the bottle. Add palm tree confetti and
letter confetti (found at party stores) to the water bottle. Glue the lid on the
water bottle. Encourage the children to find the letters in the story.
