Materials

Cereal boxes (all the same size)

Scissors

Hole punch

Yarn or heavy string

Instructions

1. Read The Runaway Latkes to the children.
2. Draw a large circle onto each sheet of brown paper (brown paper bags work
well) and give one to each child.
3. Help the children cut out their circles (latkes) and glue them onto a sheet of
white paper.
4. Ask each child where he thinks the runaway latke would go. Write his words
underneath his latke.
5. Punch holes in the sides of the papers and use string to bind them together
into your own "Runaway Latkes" book.

Snack: Make latkes using the directions in the back of the book. The ingredients
are: three large potatoes, peeled and grated; 1/2 onion, grated; 1 1/2 cup flour; 1/2
teaspoon baking powder; 1 egg; salt, pepper, and cinnamon; and olive oil. You
can also purchase potato pancake mix at the grocery store.
