Materials

Wooden clothespins, clip type

Wood glue

1/4 "(6 mm) dowel cut into 2' (60 cm) lengths

Rubber bands

Plaster of Paris

Water

Empty cylinder oatmeal boxes or large plastic yogurt containers

Contact paper, optional

Tag board or card stock paper

Scissors

Markers or pictures and glue

Instructions

1. Put the cardboard boxes on the worktable along with many rubber bands.
2. The children can stand or sit around the table.
3. Demonstrate how to select a box and place two or more rubber bands around
the open box, either lengthwise or width-wise.
4. Encourage the children to practice plucking or strumming their box.

Circle Time: The children may play their instruments while singing songs.
Science: Leave the boxes and rubber bands on a science table for a day or two
so the children can experiment with the materials.
