Materials
picture book about Mozart
CD or tape player CD or audiocassette of lively Mozart musicInstructions
* Mozart's birthday is January 27th.
1. Read a picture book about Mozart to the children.
2. Play a lively piece of Mozart, using your arms and body to sway to the
music.
3. Encourage the children to stand and sway to the music.
4. Discuss what the different sounds in the song remind them of (bird,
wind, horse, and so on).
5. Encourage the children to dance the way the music makes them feel.
More to do Art: Give the children paper and crayons (or fingerpaint, tempera paint, or
colored chalk). Discuss how different sounds can be represented in
different ways (for example, soft sounds might be little lines, loud sounds
might be big thick lines, and swooping sounds might be drawn as circles).
Ask them to "paint the music," encouraging them to draw the music the
way it makes them feel.
