Materials

White construction paper

Large child-size paintbrush

Glue

Colored popcorn kernels (uncooked)

Instructions

1. Cut out a door and windows from a large cardboard box.
2. Encourage the children to decorate the Book House using paint and markers.
For example, they can draw flowers, grass, and shrubs near the bottom of the
house. They can also draw shutters around the windows.
3. Use cloth scraps to make curtains for the windows.
4. Ask the children to help fill the house with pillows, an old rug, or stuffed toys.
5. Make the rule: "No one enters the Book House unless they are going to look
at books." Place the house near the book corner and watch the children flock
to it to read!
