Instructions

1. Glue together two circles of foam and glue a piece of ribbon around the
middle.
2. Ask the birthday child to stick the candles into the top of the foam and
pretend to blow them out.
3. As the child places the candles in the "cake," encourage the rest of the children
to hold up their fingers and put down one finger at a time as the birthday
child blows out the candles.
4. Say the following poem with the children:
Five birthday candles, I wish there were more.
Blow out one and then there are four.
Four birthday candles, pretty as can be.
Blow out one and then there are three.
Three birthday candles, we bought them new.
Blow out one and then there are two.
Two birthday candles, they shine like the sun.
Blow out one and then there is one.
One birthday candle birthdays are such fun.
Blow out one and then there are none.
5. Ask the child to put on a birthday crown. Sing "Happy Birthday."
