small squares of sandpaper and tape measure (optional)

Instructions

1. Read a story about flowers to the children. Do some of the
following "flower" projects with the children.
2. Help children make flower masks from paper plates.
Cut out the center of paper plates and give each
child the outside rim of a plate. Let the children
paint the plate rim yellow and paste pre-cut
construction paper petals in any color to the
mask.
3. Make flower hats with the children. Cut out flowers from construction paper.
Give each child a long construction paper strip. Fit it to the
child's head. Encourage the children to glue flowers to
the strip. Staple both ends together to make a hat.
4. Help the children make scepters. Give each child an
empty paper towel roll to paint green ("stem").
Provide pre-cut flower centers and petals for
them to glue onto one end of the paper towel
roll. Attach bright colored crepe paper strips.
5. Help the children make a flower clock. Make a
clock face on paper plates and give one to each
child. Encourage the children to color the clock
"face" or fingerpaint it with a bright color.
6. Provide pre-cut clock hands and help the children use brads to attach the
hands to the clock face. Let the children finish their clocks by gluing on precut
flower petals.
