Materials

one or more pup tents

flashlights

sleeping bags

one backpack per tent

children's cooking utensils

wood scraps

Instructions

1. Pitch the tents outside.
2. Put two flashlights, two sleeping bags, and a backpack filled with
cooking utensils into each tent.
3. During recess, invite the children to pretend to camp out.
4. Build a "campfire" with wood scraps. Sit around the "fire" and sing camp
songs together.
5. Do this activity in the summer, too, and compare the similarities and
differences between camping when it's cold and when it's hot (see "A
Sizzling Summer Camp Out" on page 443 in the July/August chapter).
