Instructions

1. Trace and cut out the outlines of three squirrels from grey felt. Trace and cut out the outlines of nine acorns from the brown felt.

2. Recite the following rhyme with the children, placing the squirrels and acorns on the flannel board as the rhyme mentions them.

3. Let the children take turns manipulating the squirrels and acorns as they are mentioned in the rhyme.Busy SquirrelsRunning up and downthe tree,Busy squirrels I dosee.One scurries here,one scurries there,One hurry-scurrieseverywhere.Giant acorns they have found,And bury them in the ground.Three acorns here, three acorns there,Three acorns in the city square.How many squirrels have you found?How many acorns have you found?There are three squirrels all around,And nine acorns in the ground!
