Instructions
1. Choose a story with repetitive phrases (see above list) and read it to thechildren several times over the course of the week.2. As the children become familiar with the text, invite them to help you readby supplying the repetitive phrases with your support and/or support from theillustrations. For example: "I think I can, I think I can" (from The Little EngineThat Could), or "Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm thegingerbread man!"3. As the story becomes even more familiar, ask the children to anticipate whatcomes next.More to doArt: Make stuffed gingerbread dolls using large, brown paper bags. Draw a largeoutline of a gingerbread man and cut it out, keeping both sides of the bagtogether. Staple the two sides together, but leave an opening on one side.Encourage the child to decorate his bag as desired. Stuff the bag with crumplednewspaper and staple it closed.Dramatic Play: Encourage the children to act out the stories.Literacy: Place the books in the housekeeping corner and invite the children to"read" the stories to the dolls.
