Instructions
1. Read the following action rhyme and model the motions for the
children.
Let's build a snowman!
We will make him round. (make a circle with hands)
We'll use lots of the soft snow
That's falling to the ground. (with arms up, wiggle fingers and lower hands as
a snowfall)
First, let's roll a great big ball. (use arms and hands to make a big circle)
His bottom can't be little! (shake head and wag finger "no")
Then make a ball that's not so big
To put on for his middle. (rub tummy)
We'll make his round, snowy head
And put it right on top! (pretend to put head on snowman)
Add eyes, and nose, and a big smile, (point to each on your own face)
He's done! Now we can STOP! ("freeze" in position)
2. Repeat the action rhyme as desired so the children can use the motions
again.
More to do Art: Create your own snowmen with the children. Use 8 7 1/8" and 7" white
plates and 12 oz. bowls to create a snowman. Using the underside of all
three items, attach the smaller plate to the large one, and the bowl to the
middle plate to form a snowman. Let children decorate their snowman with
craft supplies such as markers, colored paper, craft sticks, and glue.
Decorate the underside of a second bowl, cut two slits in the bowl's edge
directly opposite each other, and add these slip-on "hats" to the snowman's
head.
