Materials

water table or large rectangular tray filled with sand or cornmeal

selection of plastic bugs

paper cup for each child

Instructions

1. Discuss with the children how we can take care of the Earth by using things
from nature, the same way we recycle, to make beautiful artwork.
2. Give each child a bag or small container for collecting. Take the children
outside to collect the objects from nature.
3. After the children have collected their treasures, give each child a large piece
of strong paper, glue, and markers.
4. Explain to the children that from their found treasures they will make a
treasure collage, a water scene, for example. They can place the objects on
the paper to resemble any scene they want. Then the children can dictate or
write a little about their creations.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Encourage the children to share their pictures with each other or the group
and then display them.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Do the children share details about their pictures with each other? Can they
name the objects they collected?
* Are the children able to identify the letters in some of the related words?
