Instructions
1. When you have to wait for a few minutes, have the children sit in a circle.
Read the book to the children and teach them the following chant.
Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?
(name) stole the cookies from the cookie jar!
Who me?
Yes, you!
Couldn't be!
Then who?
2. Start the chant by naming one child in the
circle. That child answers the question,
"Then who?" by naming the child next to
him.
3. Begin the chant again with that child's name, and he supplies the name of
the next child, and so on.
4. At the end of the chant, have the guilty cookie stealer be you, the class pet,
or a puppet.

Games: Play the popcorn name game. In a singsong chant, say, "(child's name)
pop up, (child's name) pop down." Everyone claps on the syllables "pop up" and
"pop down." Use each child's name.
Math: Make a chart of the children's favorite cookies.
