Instructions

1. Beat together the egg, sugar, milk, and oil in a large bowl.2. Mix in flour and baking powder. Stir in the wheat germ.3. Line a muffin pan with muffin papers and fill each muffin cup 2/3 full.4. Put the muffin pan in the oven and bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes (adult only). (Recipe makes twelve muffins.)5. Follow the recipe and encourage the children to take turns measuring, pouring, and mixing. Encourage the children to feel and examine the ingredients as they work.6. While making the muffins, talk about opposites such as wet/dry, smooth/rough, empty/full, fast/slow (mixing), raw/cooked, hot/cold, in/out (egg), big/little (cups and spoons).7. While muffins bake, wash all the tools. Again, talk about opposites (for example, wet/dry and clean/dirty).More to doArt: Assemble a collection of big and little pairs of matching objects, such as measuring cups, blocks, pencils, jar lids, gift boxes, and so on. Give each child a piece of 12" x 18" (30 cm x 45 cm) paper and a piece of 9" x 11" (22 cm x 27 cm) paper. Encourage the children to dip the objects into shallow pans of paint and make prints of the big object on the big paper and the matching small object on the small paper.Movement: Encourage the children to clap the opposite of loud, jump the opposite of high, walk the opposite of slow, and so on.
