Instructions
1. Read The Last Puppy to the children.
2. Encourage the children to act out the story. If they desire, they can all play
many parts and more than one child can act out each character.
3. Encourage the children to make puppies using modeling dough. Don't be
concerned with the final products; for three-year-olds, a lump of clay
represents a dog.
4. Count out ten of the clay puppies and put them in front of the children at
story time. Designate the largest dough creation as the mother dog. Read the
book and ask a child to remove one dog each time a puppy is taken from the
litter.
More to do
Blocks: Encourage the children to build a doghouse using blocks.
Dramatic Play: Place the book and a clean, new dog food bowl in the Dramatic
Play Area to encourage additional dramatization of the story.
