Two or three large buckets with handles

1. If you have trouble keeping your classroom books in order or if your
bookshelves are not big enough, create some handy Book Buckets.
2. Buy two or three large buckets. The plastic kind with simulated rope handles
are great to use.
3. Store extra books in the buckets or fill them according to a certain theme. For
example, you could have a "Dr. Seuss Bucket" or a "Clifford Bucket."
4. Use white construction paper and markers to label the book buckets.
Remember to change the label when the theme changes.
5. Let the children carry the book buckets around the room as they play. Also
encourage them to read the books in the buckets.
6. Take empty book buckets with you on field trips to the library. They make
carrying all those great books back to school a snap!
Tip: If you truly do have too many books, help the children decide which ones
they want to keep and then let them donate the rest to a needy early childhood
program.
More to do
Art: Let the children create their own mini book buckets. Purchase a sand
bucket for each child. Provide permanent colorful markers, colorful adhesive
paper, and stickers so the children can decorate their own buckets. Let them
take these great little buckets home for use in their rooms.
