Instructions

This is a good activity for small groups of about five children.

1. Have each child lie down on a large piece of paper, and trace their outlines.

2. Encourage the children to paint or color their outlines as desired.

3. Cut out the body outlines and have the children write their names on them.

4. Place all of them (four or five) on the floor.

5. Ask the children which is the tallest and which is the shortest. Ask them which is the middle-sized one in the group.

6. Ask them to point out three outlines that show tall, taller, and tallest. Then ask them to point out three outlines that show small, smaller, and smallest.

7. Let them take turns putting the outlines in order by size.

8. Explain that one can learn facts from pictures as well as from words. Explain that a pictogram of their sizes is called a graph.

9. Let the children help glue the body outlines, in the right order, to a contrasting roll of paper to make a graph and hang it on the wall.
