Instructions
1. Choose a category into which you can divide the children into smaller groups.For instance:* Who is wearing sneakers, sandals, or shoes with laces?* Who has light brown hair, blonde hair, dark brown hair or black hair, or red hair?* Who walks to school, rides the bus, or rides in a car?* Who likes vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry ice cream?2. Ask the children to form lines according to their answers.
3. As the children form lines, have them hold hands with children who hold the same ordinal position in the lines next to them (for example, the second child in each line hold hands). Some children may not have someone's hand to hold because their line has more children on it. (For self-esteem purposes, try not to choose a category that puts any child alone.)4. Ask the children questions about the lines they're in. "Which line has the most children?" "Which line has the fewest children?"5. See if the children can describe and compare the lines. For example, "Our line has one more person than that line."
