Instructions
1. Before beginning this activity, read the children Little Blue and Little Yellow.Help the children recognize that Little Blue and Little Yellow changed tobecome green when they hugged in the story.2. Pour some water into each section of a muffin tin. Add plenty of red, blue, oryellow food coloring to each section to make bold colors.3. Insert an eyedropper into each section.4. Many three-year-olds have limited experience with eyedroppers. Model howto place the dropper into the water, squeeze it, pull it out, and squeeze thedropper again to release the liquid onto the coffee filter. As you model usingthe eyedropper, use simple language to describe what you are doing ("insqueeze; out squeeze").5. Encourage the children to discover what happens as the different colors blendonto the coffee filter. Can they create "Little Green" as in the story, as well asthe other color combinations, such as orange, purple, and even brown whenall the colors mix?6. Encourage the children to discover the difference when they squeeze a littlebit of color and a lot of color. This activity encourages control of the children'sfine finger muscles because a more colorful result occurs with less coloredwater.More to doOutdoors: Take a color walk and look for "a little blue" and "a little yellow."
