Materials

cardboard boxes in assorted sizes (shoeboxes and small jewelry boxes

work best)

pieces of pre-cut wrapping paper or newsprint

ribbons and bows

markers or crayons

white card stock (8 1/2 " x 11"), folded in half

transparent tape

Instructions

1. Cut a door and windows in the cardboard box to resemble a barn.
Note: It is best to cut the doors and windows before the children arrive.
2. Use duct tape to reinforce the corners.
3. Let the children paint the barn with red paint.
4. Help them add details to the barn, such as white lines on the doors.
Show them a picture of a real barn, if available.
5. Encourage the children to talk about the animals that usually live on
farms. Discuss what kind of food the animals eat.
6. Talk with the children about what farmers do and then invite them to
pretend to be farmers.
