Instructions
1. Ask parents or friends to donate old calendars to use to create child-made
books for your classroom library.
2. Cut out calendar pictures and place them in plastic sleeve protectors in a
three-ring binder.
3. Encourage each child to look through the pictures and select his favorite. Ask
the child to dictate a story about his picture to you or another adult (parent
volunteer). Write down the child's story and encourage him to sign his work.
4. Tape the dictated story to the picture in the plastic sleeve.
5. Children love to see their own stories, and the book will soon become a
favorite.
More to do If you have a computer in your classroom, let the children dictate their stories
on the computer as a supplemental activity to hand-writing their story. It is
exciting for the children to see their words come to life when printed out.
