Materials

Clear glass or plastic container, such as soda bottle, jam jar or mayonnaise jar, one for each child

Glue, waterproof or glue gun preferred

Small plastic fish and seaweed

Small shells and coral, washed

Builder's sand, coarse grade, washed Water

Blue food coloring

Instructions

1. Glue the plastic seaweed to the bottom of the jars and let the glue dry.

2. Now the children place washed shells, coral, fish and sand into the jars. Fill only one third of the containers with solid items and the remainder of the jars with water. Put one drop of blue food coloring in the water.

3. Seal the jars or bottles by putting glue on the tops and screwing the lids on tight to make them leak-proof. Let the glue set overnight.

4. The children may make waves by moving the jars back and forth, or ocean currents by using a circular motion.More to doArt: Make a smaller version of this activity by using a baby food jar. Spray paint the lid, glue rocks and seaweed to the lid and seal the jar. Using the lid as the base, you will have a very nice scene and paperweight.
