Instructions
1. Use this activity to transition to circle or group time.
2. Ask one child to sit on the floor. Say the rhyme to this child who picks
another child to come and sit down.
One little child
Sitting on the floor.
He wanted a friend,
So he called one more.
3. The second child sits with the first. Count the number of children together.
Say the rhyme again, and ask the second child to pick a friend.
Two little children
Sitting on the floor.
They wanted a friend,
So they called one more.
4. Always count the number of children out loud before going on. Continue
until all the children are sitting.
More to do Adapt this idea to any theme. Change "child" to duck, bunny, dinosaur, dog, cat,
and so on.
Math: This activity can also be modified for older children by asking for two
children at a time and counting by twos.
