What to do
1. Ahead of time, cut out a circle for each child that is slightly larger than the end of the toilet tissue
tube. This will be the bat's face. Cut out pointy ears and other features from construction
paper that the children can glue on the circle. Cut out a set of wings and two small bat feet for
each child.
2. Invite the children to cover their toilet tissue tubes with construction paper.
3. Have the children glue a circle for the face on one end of the tube. Older children can glue
on pointy ears and other features made from construction
paper; younger children may need your help with this.
4. Show the children how to glue the wings to the tube.
5. Demonstrate how to fold the wings up and down to
resemble bat wings.
6. Have the children glue on the feet so they stick out of
the back of the wings.
7. Add string to hang.
More to do
Games: Gather the children in a circle around one blindfolded
child in the middle, the bat; one child in the circle
creates a sound using a bell, drumsticks, or the like, and
the "bat" must locate the source of the sound. Repeat until
all the children have had a turn as the bat and as the
source of a sound.
Outdoors: Find a quiet spot and have the children shout,
then listen for their echo; help them understand how
