Materials

Bananas Lemonade drink mix

Colored sugar Finely chopped salted peanuts3 plates or pie pans Skewers for kabobs, optional

Chart paper and marker

Instructions

1. Beforehand, peel the bananas and cut them into chunks. You will need three chunks perchild. Put the drink mix, sugar and peanuts on separate plates. Have the skewers ready.

2. Let the children roll one piece of banana into each of the three "tastes." Slide the bananasonto a skewer if you are using them.

3. After everyone has rolled their bananas, they may eat the pieces. While the children areeating, ask questions to get them thinking about different tastes salty, sweet and sour.

4. Write the three tastes on the board or chart paper. Ask the children to contribute the namesof other foods that would fit into each taste category.More to doMore science: Discuss taste buds.
