Instructions

1. Cut poster board into pieces a little larger than the photos of the children.
Glue a photo of each child onto a piece of poster board.
2. Write the child's name under his photo.
3. Cover the card with clear contact paper or laminate it. Place magnetic tape on
the back.
4. At Circle Time, hold up one photo at a time. (This is especially helpful at the
beginning of the year when children are learning each other's names.) If the
child is present, ask him to place his photo on a magnetic blackboard or
other surface that is at the children's height.
5. Later in the year, cover the photo with your hand and ask the children to try
to read the name, or cover the name except for the first letter and the children
guess who is in the photo.
More to do
Leave photos in a basket and during choice time, the children can line them up
and use the photos in other creative ways.
Song
At the beginning of the year, sing the following song using an owl puppet (Tune:
"Row, Row, Row Your Boat"):
Who, who, who are you?
It would be so fine,
If you tell me what your name is.
I will tell you mine.
