Instructions

1. Read Barnyard Lullaby to the children. The animals in the barnyard are
singing lullabies to their babies, but to the farmer it sounds like noise.
2. Encourage the children to make the animal noises at the proper places in the
story. Just before the farmer yells at the animals, ask different children to
make different animal noises so the entire group sounds like a chorus of
noises. Let all of the children act out the farmer's part at the end. This will
bring the game to a quiet end when the farmer goes to sleep.
More to do
Blocks: Add farm animals to the Block Area.
Rest or Nap Time: When children are on their mats ready for rest, sing the
lullaby that the farmer's wife sang to her baby. The music is in the back of the
book. If you cannot read music, make up a soft and gentle tune or chant the
words quietly. Substitute the word "naptime" for "nighttime." Remind the
children that this part of the lullaby quieted the farmer and the baby and put
them to sleep.
