Materials

black poster board

scissors

music from the 1950's

pink, black, and white felt

glue

craft cord

T-shirts (one for each child)

scarves

vanilla ice cream, red soda, cherries, and whipped topping

Instructions

1. Cut strips of yarn or paper into equal length long enough to reach from the
top of the ball to the table. Tape a row of "hair" (yarn or paper strips) across
the top of each ball. Place each ball in a bowl to hold it steady, and place the
bowl on a table.
2. Make a sign-up sheet by writing "Needs a turn to give hair a trim" at the top
of a piece of paper. Place the paper and a pencil on the table and let children
sign up to "cut hair." Call the children for a turn in the order that they sign up.
3. Show the children how much hair a person might get trimmed.
4. Let the children trim a short length of hair. Make sure they use the dustpan
to clean up the hair they cut off before the next person comes to work.
