Instructions

1. Put an end to the clutter in your room by creating this classy Art Box to store
children's artwork.
2. Explain to the children that they will have a special place to store completed
artwork. Show them the file folder box and hanging files. Tell them that you
are going to work together to create an Art Box.
3. Encourage the children to use scrap paper, fabric scraps, glitter, and sequins
to decorate the hanging file folder box. Avoid using large items such as beads
or macaroni because they tend to fall off.
4. Create a label for the box and apply it to the front end.
5. Give each child a hanging file folder. Let them use colored markers, pencils,
and crayons to decorate it as they please. (Since these folders will be used
daily, avoid using glitter, sequins, and other glued items they will not
withstand the constant handling.)
6. Print each child's name on a 2" x 4" piece of oak tag. Tape these to the top
of the children's file folders. Do not use the folder tags included with the
pack of file folders. They are too small to be seen once the artwork is stored
in the box. The child's name should stick up at least 1" above the folder.
7. Place the Art Box near the supply shelf. Encourage the children to put their
completed artwork in their own file folder. Remind the children that collage
and other glued artwork need to dry thoroughly before being put in the box.
8. Send the collected artwork home at least twice a month, but do not send the
file folder itself home. You will need it for more artwork.
