Instructions
1. As you transition to the end of the day, encourage the children to do nice
things for each other by singing the following to the tune of "London
Bridge."
Who was a friend to you today?
You today, you today?
Who was a friend to you today?
At _________ (school name).
2. The children raise their hands to tell what someone did for them that was
nice or helpful.
3. Sing the following for the helpful child.
_________ (helpful child's name) was a friend today,
friend today, friend today.
__________ (helpful child' name) was a friend today,
At ________ (school name).
4. Before singing the song, talk about nice things children do for each other. If
you see something especially nice, ring a bell to stop everything and
mention what the child has done. This will help children understand what
things make someone a good friend.
Home-to-School Connection: If a child has done something especially nice,
send a special note home in the mail to her family. Families love this, and it
reinforces to the child what a good friend they were.
Author's Note: I try to send a note home about each child at least once a year.
