Instructions

1. This activity will help get young children familiar with the standard clock. Display a real clock. Point out the numbers and hands on a real clock.

2. Take the children outdoors to a blacktop area. Draw a very large circle and write numbers on it like a real clock. Put a foam water noodle in the middle (like one hand of a clock). Remind children that a real clock has two hands, but for this game, the clock has only one hand.

3. Gather the children around the "ground clock." Explain that they are going to play a game called Around the Clock to help them learn their numbers.

4. Have the children line up at the twelve. Give each child a beanbag.

5. Set the noodle "hand" on the clock so that it points to a number.

6. The children run around the clock and drop their beanbags on the number the noodle is pointing to. As they drop the beanbag, they say "____ o'clock" (according to the selected number).

7. They run around the clock a second time to pick up their beanbag and recite the time again as they pick up their beanbag.

8. Continue the game, pointing the clock hand to a different number each time.
