Instructions

1. During circle time, have a discussion about board games. Ask questions such
as, "What is your favorite game?" and "How did you learn to play it?"
2. Show the group several different board games with which they are familiar,
such as checkers, Old Maid, Trouble, Chutes and Ladders, Go Fish, and
Candy Land. Ask them to tell you what they know about each game. Make a
list of their observations.
3. Ask the children what kind of game they would like to make. Show them the
materials and encourage them to develop a game either individually or in
small groups.
4. Support their creativity by helping to turn their ideas into concrete game
pieces (cards, markers, boards) and documenting their rules.
5. Play and refine the games.
More to do
Have a family game night. Invite parents and siblings to come to school and play
the games the children made. You might invite families to bring along
commercial games as well.
